A panda born 100 days ago at the San Diego Zoo finally has a name.
In keeping with Chinese tradition, the zoo waited those 100 days to name its newest panda Zhen Zhen, which means “precious.” The name won a contest in which more than 2,000 zoo patrons submitted ideas. Of the four finalists, 36 percent of voters chose Zhen Zhen. The other choices were Li Hua (“beautiful China”), Ming Zhu (“bright treasure”), or Xiao Lao (“little beauty”).
Until today, Zhen Zhen had been living away from the public in a private habitat with her mother. Now, for the first time, you can see the zoo’s newest edition on its Web cam.
wait wait wait this is a sand diego zoo?
Da Boss is right. Why would a American zoo be following a Chinese tradition?
They follow the chinese tradition because pandas are chinese animals.
