Texas Scouts escape rising water

Flooding in Texas forced a Scout troop to abandon their camp in the middle of the night. Luckily, nobody was injured although the troop lost several vehicles and a trailer full of equipment.

Troop 95 from suburban Fort Worth, Tex., was camping near the Guadalupe River in central Texas this weekend when a storm dropped as much as 17 inches of rain in the area.

When leaders woke up in the middle of the night, they saw that the river was rising and rushed everyone to safety. Within minutes, a flash flood washed away tents, five vehicles and a trailer containing $25,000 worth of camping and cooking gear.

  1. That must have been SCARY! I wouldn’t have wanted to be in that troop, but I’m glad everyone’s OK!

The scariest thing that happened to me was when I was 5, my family was out hiking and we saw a bear following us. It was fine in the end and the bear just lumbered off but for a second I thought I was going down! My mom later told me that the bear just liked the smell of the picnic food my family had packed! 🙂 😉 🙂
