Search Google Earth for adventurer

airplane-200×148.jpgSatellite images on the Internet are being used to help search for Steve Fossett, the famous adventurer whose airplane disappeared over Nevada last Monday.

A company that supplies images to Google Earth has provided up-to-date satellite photos of Nevada that computer users at home can search for signs of Fossett’s airplane.

The satellite images have also been loaded into Amazon’s Mechanical Turk program to help organize the collaborative search. The web-based program shows viewers a single satellite image and asks them to mark any objects that resemble an airplane. Flagged images are passed along to the search team. With enough help, organizers are hoping they can check the entire 17,000 square-mile search area.
