A NASA spacecraft has provided hundreds of images of the planet closest to the sun, Mercury. The photos offer a detailed look at never-before-seen landscapes on Mercury’s surface.
The photos were taken by the MESSENGER spacecraft, which was launched in 2004. MESSENGER orbited 124 miles above Mercury’s surface while taking the photos. This spacecraft will continue on toward the sun and return to Mercury in March 2011.
