Female Ballplayer

Eri Yoshida, a Japanese 18-year-old, has signed a contract to play for the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League. The knuckeball pitcher will report to spring training in May.

Yoshida is 5 feet tall and weighs 114 pounds. She went 0-2 with a 4.03 ERA last season for the Kobe Cruise 9 of Japan’s Kansai Independent League. She will become the first female to pitch for a professional team in the United States since Ila Borders retired more than 10 years ago.
