Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re still searching for the perfect gift, don’t stress! We’ve got you covered with three quick and easy DIY projects that will show your love in a heartfelt way. Best part? You can complete them in just 10 minutes, and the materials won’t cost you more than $10!
Felt Heart Treat Holder
STEP 1
Choose two colors of felt. Fold your felt in half horizontally. Using the oval template, cut out two pieces of felt. Make sure they are the same size and shape.
STEP 2
Use the scissors to cut 3 lines in the felt. It’s easier if you layer your felt when doing this step to make sure the slits match up.
STEP 3
With the folded ends facing you, slip the first loop of purple felt inside the first loop of the pink felt. Next, slip the purple loop outside the pink loop. Slip the purple loop inside the pink loop, then outside the next pink loop. The first row is done! Start with the opposite color for the next row. Continue this weaving process until all rows are complete.
STEP 4
Once your heart is done, smooth it out. You can now fill it with goodies.
Paper Heart-Shaped Wreath
STEP 1
Start by selecting your favorite-colored construction paper or cardstock. You can use multiple colors. Using a ruler, trace out at least six 1-inch-wide strips. Cut the strips out. Note: Cut out more strips for a larger wreath, but not too many, or it could get droopy.
STEP 2
Fold each strip of paper in half, curving the ends of the paper inwards to make a heart shape. Staple the two ends together.
STEP 3
After making about six to seven hearts, line up the bottom points of two hearts and staple them together about halfway between the bottom and top of the heart. Continue this method until you make a circle.
STEP 4
Use a hole punch and string or ribbon knotted to hang the wreath.
Chocolate Candy Hearts
STEP 1
Start with about 3-4 chocolate bars. Break them into small pieces in a medium saucepan.
STEP 2
Make a double boiler. Place a large saucepan on the stovetop and add about an inch of water. Place the medium saucepan inside the larger one. Bring the water to a boil.
STEP 3
Allow the chocolate to melt. Occasionally, stir the chocolate so it doesn’t stick or burn.
STEP 4
Once melted, turn off the stove, remove the medium saucepan from the larger pan, and allow it to cool for about two minutes. Ask an adult for help because there could be hot water at the bottom of the saucepan.
STEP 5
Use a spoon to scoop the melted chocolate into your heart molds. Fill them to the top. Tip: Once the mold is filled, you can smooth out the top by gently moving the mold side-to-side.
STEP 6
Place your mold in the freezer for about one hour to harden the chocolate.
STEP 7
Time to pop out the hearts! Place your thumb underneath the mold and pop the hearts out individually. You can also turn the mold upside down over a plate or parchment paper and press with your thumb on the mold.
TIP: Don’t be scared to get creative. You can mix different chocolates together. You can also add candy, sprinkles or a filling (caramel, peanut butter, etc.) to the hearts. Simply layer the bottom of your mold with chocolate, insert your filling, and top it with more chocolate.
Thank you so much Scout Life! I had almost no time to make Valentines for my family, and these were so helpful!!
