Electric Eel Powers Christmas Tree

Tis the season to find alternate energy sources. In Tokyo, Japanese inventor Kazuhiko Minawa has devised a plan to harness the power of an electric eel to light a Christmas tree.

The eel’s tank is lined with two aluminum panels, which are used as electrodes to catch its power. The panels are connected to cables. The cables then channel the power to a nearby tree, which is lit by the eel’s electricity.

The tree will stay lit until Christmas and is proving to be a popular tourist attraction.
