The John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest is now open and accepting entries from U.S. high school students.
The first-place prize is worth $10,000.
Profiles in Courage is the name of a book written by John F. Kennedy before he was president. It is the story of eight U.S. senators who stood up for unpopular positions at great risk to their own careers.
The essay contest invites students to write about an elected U.S. official who has chosen to do what is right instead of what is easiest.
