Over 17 million viewers watched “High School Musical 2” on Friday night, making it the most-watched show ever on basic cable.
The previous cable TV record was a Monday Night Football game on ESPN back in 2006.
In addition, more kids aged 6-11 watched Disney Channel’s “High School Musical 2” than any other TV show in history, and it’s was the second-highest rated show among tweens aged 9-14.
Experts say the numbers could actually be even higher because many kids and parents watched the show at viewing parties.
