Record Gator

A Florida man has caught the longest alligator in official state history. Tres Ammerman, who traps gators as a hobby, caught one that stretches more than 14 feet in length.

Ammerman was in a boat on Lake Washington near Orlando with two friends when they spotted the large alligator. They harpooned the gator and towed him to a boat dock. The capture took about 2 hours.

While this alligator is the longest in official Florida history, it is not the heaviest. This alligator weighs 654 pounds, while another once caught in Orange Lake weighed 1,043 pounds.
