A Florida man resuscitated his pooch after the dog encountered an alligator Thursday. Tom Martino and his Jack Russell terrier—named “Lizabeth”—were walking along a Tampa river when an alligator attacked. The reptile wrestled Lizabeth and pulled her into the water.
Martino fired a gun at the alligator, intending to scare it into releasing the dog. When the gator let go, Martino pulled his dog from the water and began performing CPR. Lizabeth finally coughed up water and started breathing again. The dog is now recovering from bites and lung injuries.
Authorities caught the alligator after the attack. Martino is licensed to carry a concealed weapon.
