Sotheby’s auction house will put on sale today the American flag carried at Little Bighorn by Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and his 7th Cavalry. The worn and tattered flag, which measures 27.5 inches by 33 inches, is expected to fetch between $2 million and $5 million.
On June 25, 1876, Custer led 200 soldiers in a battle against Lakota and Northern Cheyenne warriors. This battle, in which every U.S. soldier was killed, took place along the Little Bighorn River in present-day Montana.
