World’s tallest sand castle

For the past two months, volunteers in Casco, Maine, have helped build what they hope will be the world’s tallest sand castle.

Organizers say the elaborate creation tops out at 31 feet, 7 inches. If verified by the Guinness Book of Records, it would defeat the current record for the tallest sand castle at 29 1/2 feet carved on a beach in Falmouth, Maine in 2003.

The sand castle, which used 40 dump-truck loads of sand, is being built to raise money for Camp Sunshine, a retreat for terminally ill children.

  1. That would be pretty heavy, having 40 dump-truck loads of sand. How would the sand castle be able to stand under all that wieght? 😮
