For many years, a lighthouse overlooked Wellfleet Harbor in Massachusetts. It was thought the 30-foot tower had been removed and destroyed in 1925, but the lighthouse has been located — more than 3,000 miles away.
Researchers have discovered the lighthouse at Point Montara in San Francisco Bay. Further research shows the Coast Guard moved the lighthouse from Wellfleet to Yerba Buena, Calif., before it met its current resting spot at Point Montara.
Erected in 1881, there is no record of why the lighthouse left Wellfleet. Experts suggest it was dismantled piece by piece and shipped by railroad across the country.
More importantly, there is a digest dedicated to lighthouses AND people read it?
