Afterschool programs show students how to support their communities, promote civic engagement and provide opportunities to collect food and clothing for those in need, clean up parks and playgrounds, read to seniors and more. That means there’s plenty to celebrate.
You’ll get your chance on Oct. 20, as more than 1 million people will participate in the 17th annual Lights On Afterschool rally. Around 8,000 events will take place in communities like yours as students learn about STEM (science, technology, engineering and math); the arts with poetry readings, anti-bullying plays, poster contests and dance performances; healthy behaviors with cooking demos and exercises to show how ways young people can get active and so much more.
