An extremely valuable Honus Wagner baseball card now belongs to Sister Virginia Muller and the other nuns of Baltimore’s School Sisters of Notre Dame. The nuns will auction the card — thought to be worth $150,000 to $200,000 — with the profits going to ministries in 35 countries around the world.
The brother of a former Notre Dame nun left all his possessions to the order when he died. Those possessions included the Wagner card, locked away in a safe deposit box.
The T206 Honus Wagner card was produced from 1909 to 1911, and only about 60 are known to exist today. The nuns’ card is in poor condition. A near-mint Wagner card sold for $2.8 million in 2007.
