Wasps are flying insects with narrow waists and shiny bodies. They’re usually less fuzzy than bees. Here are seven interesting facts about wasps.

1. Wasps pollinate flowers and eat dead bugs, both of which are good for the environment.

2. There are more than 30,000 species worldwide, including paper wasps, yellow jackets and hornets.

3. Most wasps don’t survive winter. The queen hibernates and starts a new nest in spring.

4. Wasps build their nests out of chewed-up wood and saliva.
