1. The dark spots we see on the moon from Earth are caused by hits from asteroids, meteors and comets.
2. The moon is a little more than 238,800 miles away from Earth. That’s like lining up 32 million school buses bumper to bumper.
3. The Orion spacecraft’s weight at liftoff is about 78,000 pounds — that’s equal to six male African elephants!
4. Only 12 astronauts have walked on the moon. The last time was in December 1972.
5. Astronauts are taller in space. Their spines extend, so they can grow up to 2 inches!
6. There’s no wind or rain on the moon, so footprints from 1969 (when humans first landed on the moon) are still there.
