Whales in the Antarctic can breathe a sigh of relief: Japan has cancelled the rest of its winter whaling season. This marks the first time Japan has cancelled its whale hunting since 1987.
The activist group Sea Shepherd is a big reason why the Japanese whalers are headed for home. Sea Shepherd monitors whaling activity and sometimes gets into fights with the whaling ships. Sea Shepherd, which began in 2005, has made it dangerous for whalers to continue their work.
