A middle school science teacher in Missoula, Mont., plowed into a bear while riding his bike to school on Monday.
Jim Litz was traveling about 25 miles per hour when he reached the top of a hill. Ten feet in front of him stood a black bear. Without time to stop, Litz struck the bear and both man and mammal tumbled to the ground. The bear rolled over onto Litz’s head and cracked his helmet before running away.
The biking teacher suffered some bruising and a big scratch on his back. Litz’s wife drove by shortly after the accident and took her husband to the hospital.
