Meteor Strikes Office

A tennis ball-sized meteorite traveling 220 miles per hour ripped through the roof of a small doctor’s office Monday evening in Virginia. Dr. Frank Ciampi heard “a loud bang and found the projectile punched through the roof and ceiling, raining down pieces of wood, plaster and insulation.”

The meteorite split into three chunks. It was taken to the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum of Natural History, where experts confirmed it was a meteorite. No one was hurt during the incident.

  2. Some meteorites are gargantuan. You can see them at the National History Museum (I’ve only gone to the one in D.C.). Imagine that falling on your roof.
