A two-ton hippopotamus escaped from a zoo two weeks ago in the small European nation of Montenegro. Flooding allowed the massive animal to swim over the fence surrounding its pen, which sat on a small island in the middle of a lake.
Nine days after the escape, Nikica the hippo returned home. Hippos are considered some of the most dangerous animals on the planet, but Nikica injured no one during the romp outside the zoo. Some officials wanted to shoot and kill the hippo, but the owner of the private zoo convinced them not to.
