Human Helicopter

University of Maryland students have built and set a world record with an enormous human-powered helicopter. The vehicle uses four sets of two spinning blades to lift from the ground.

A 24-year-old graduate student pedaled the helicopter on its record setting ride. The record had been hovering 3 to 5 inches for 4 seconds. The Maryland helicopter reached heights of 3 to 5 inches for 4 to 6 seconds. It doesn’t sound like much, but the project was quite the undertaking.
