The first three-dimensional images of the sun have been released by NASA, which says the images may lead to better predictions of solar eruptions.
These eruptions — also known as solar flares — blow a billion tons of the sun’s atmosphere into space at a powerful 1 million miles per hour. These flares have been known to cause power and communication problems here on earth. We can also credit them with the beautiful northern lights display seen in the upper latitudes of the northern hemisphere.
